Strolling through Pizzo

From one of the parking lots, follow the steeply ascending alleys to reach the centro storico of Pizzo. Your efforts are sure to be rewarded – with a view of the coast and the sea from Piazza della Repubblica.

In the charming, winding alleys you can buy lovely souvenirs and get a close look at local everyday life.

The Aragonese castle is an interesting relic from the 15th century. It was named for Joachim Murat, Napoleon’s brother-in-law, who attempted to liberate this region from Bourbon rule. Not far from the castle, Murat lies buried in the Baroque church of S. Giorgio, which harbors works of art by Bernini.

After visiting the sights of Pizzo, stop at one of the town’s gelaterie and savor some Tartufo ice cream.

Cooling off at Pizzo’s sandy bays

On the Gulf of St. Eufemia, which means at Pizzo as well, beautiful sandy bays invite you to linger for a while and to enjoy the turquoise colored sea.
